To successfully promote your athletic program or sport takes time and effort. That time and effort can pay significant dividends by increased publicity for your program, increased attendance at your residence events, increased media coverage, increased sponsorship revenue, and increased concession revenue.
When you sell much more tickets, generate extra sponsorship revenue, and your concession stands grow to be a lot more profitable, you enhance your bottom line. I have divided the season into three distinct areas, Pre-season, In season, and Post season.
Pre-season:
Send the region media outlets a forecast for the upcoming season. Send individual photos of your players. Incorporate data on your team, conference, and top players in the location.
Hold a Meet the Team Night with the local print, radio, and TV media outlets prior to your initial game. We do a \"Meet the Team\" for our football, basketball, baseball and softball programs.
Form a Booster Club. But be careful ... at times they take on a life of their own. Form a Silver Foxes Club. This group of retirees/senior citizens can give you a lot needed support in the community. They adore to support the schools and the athletes. They are far more than willing to serve as mentors for your athletes.
Commence a Youth Program if there isn\'t one already operating in your school area. Have your players work with the youth players.
Develop a web webpage. There are quite a few that are cost-free to sports teams. If you are not laptop or computer savvy, there is bound to be 1 of your students who are.
In-season:
Send a press release about your team whenever something unique occurs. Keep in mind to contain the following - who, what, when, where, why, and how. There are times when the local media have dead time and are looking for stories.
Report each game to the media - home and away, win or lose. If you want your program to have media coverage you have to take the wonderful with the poor. Keep your slant as positive as feasible.
Call in the score instantly following the game - newspapers are trying to beat print deadlines
Do a weekly radio and/or tv show. Lots of local radio stations are far more than happy to do a coaches show. For them, it is a way to generate some income by selling the advertising on the coaches show. For you, it is increased exposure for your program. With the advent of cable television, several communities now have a TV station dedicated to local programing. They are always looking for approaches to fill up their schedule. Yet another avenue is just now obtaining began. Several commercial stations are now adding a secondary station. They will have to have to fill time slots.
Post Season:
Make certain the location media get the list of All-League, All-Area, All-State, All-American honors. If your players have worked hard enough to obtain these honors, it is vital that you get the information to the media. Have the local media report on your team award winners. This might incorporate awards like Most Useful, Sixth Man, and Hustle.
Have a team or multi-sports banquet. If funds enable and there is a college or pro coach or athlete on the market have them speak at the banquet. If funds are low, look for a local motivational speaker who may possibly be willing to do it as a favor to your program. The key to obtaining a speaker is to ask early.
Hand out awards at the banquet. If your budget doesn\'t permit for trophies or plaques, then you can style a certificate and frame it in a nice frame rather inexpensively. Remember, these awards are going to be with your athletes a lengthy time. If you are going to have some fun awards, make positive they are not demeaning to your athletes.
Make a video tape/DVD highlight of the season. Most computers come with video editing software. With today\'s pc capabilities you can have music and graphics added to make it seriously unique for your players and parents. Employing these ideas can aid promote your program at little or no price to your school. And every person advantages as a result of your efforts.
